14 Days Zanzibar Safari Adventure
This special program provides a slightly different and “off the beaten track” safari experience, for those safari-goers who don’t mind travelling the slightly rougher safari roads in search of the real, rugged African wilderness! You will be staying in more remote areas where there will be fewer safari vehicles to contend with.
Accommodations selected are comfortable and atmospheric without unnecessary opulence or luxury, so you won’t be distracted from the wonderful wild surroundings. At the end of your southern safari you will spend several blissful days relaxing in an extremely tranquil and beautiful rock beach on Zanzibar’s north-western coast, enjoying warm sunshine and refreshing swims, cold beers and stunning sunsets. You finish with a couple of cultural days in Zanzibar’s fabled old town.

The topography of the park varies from rolling savannah woodland, grassland plain and rocky outcrops cut by the Rufiji River and its tributaries. The morning is spent on game viewing around the park. After lunch at the banks of the river your boat will pick you up and take you on a long river cruise along Rujiji River, across some of the lakes and through small channels at this huge lagoon system inhabited by crocodiles, hippos, monkey and plenty of birds (this river cruise takes some 4-5 hours and differs significantly from the ‘usual’ 1-1,5 hour boat trips at the river). Reach your lodge perched high above the river banks with the last afternoon light – just in time for a sundowner and some rest before the dinner. Overnight at Selous Great Water Lodge. All meals included. |
||

Day 6: Udzungwa Mountains National Park
This trek can be done by an enthusiastic hiker in half a day, heading quickly up the escarpment and back down again. We usually recommend a more leisurely approach, heading up the mountain in the morning, taking lunch on the top of the waterfall with its breath-taking views of the valley, and taking time out to swim during the heat of the day. Then you can follow the trail around the side of the escarpment and head back down the mountainside. Overnight at Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Camp (Accommodation in en-suite tents). All meals included. |
||
Day 7: Udzungwa Mountains National Park It is necessary to take a ranger on this hike as there are large mammals deep in the forest. You will certainly see plenty of wildlife on this trail. Once you've climbed the sometimes steep trail to the ridge, you walk through the flat grassy bottoms of some beautiful hidden valleys (hence our name for the trail) often frequented by elephants. Overnight at Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Camp (Accommodation at en suite tents). All meals included. NB- this is a moderately tough hiking tour which takes some 7-8 hours for some 15 km. If you like a ‘lighter’ version your guide will take you across the road via the friendly local town of Mwaya towards a Rubber Plantation where you can see how local Latex is produced (this excursion can take some 4-5 hours) |
||
Day 8: Udzungwa-Dar es Salaam -Zanzibar Overnight at Milele Villas. All meals included. |

The location of the villas is perfect for those who appreciate a quiet, secluded, and untouched area, which is a stranger to tourism, but only a 15 minute drive away from popular areas Nungwi and Kendwa.
